The day has come for the move. The removals company – we used Roy Trevor in Warrington – came on the Wednesday afternoon. They had been to our friends house on Wednesday morning and picked up all the stuff they were taking to Spain. The plan was to do half of ours on the Wednesday afternoon and the rest Thursday morning. Needless to say we were still packing around them!
Thursday was a nightmare. Luckily the motorhome had been delivered a few days early so we were able to set up the cat and dog cages across the whole of the back seats/beds after covering them with protective sheets. We were also able to get some stuff loaded into the large garage on the motorhome – inluding a pit bike that I did not know we had – sneakily bought by the boys. When I say we here – most of this was done by our son whilst I was running around like a headless chicken. He also had to get his stuff packed and sent off to his friends mill in Bolton.
We had to keep the cats locked in a bedroom whilst the removal men were working so that one or more of them did not decide to go off on an adventure for the day. This did nothing good for the carpet at the doorway to this room 🙁
Once the removal men had gone, it was the last few bits to sort. The solicitors had called me to say the money had been transferred but time was just flying by. The new owners of our house turned up in their car – they were getting hassled by their buyers and I think we were holding everyone up. In the end we just shoved what we could in the 2 vehicles and me, my partner, and son drove round the corner and parked up to sort the final bits.
A funny thing happened whilst we were doing this – a lady from the house at the end of the road came to say goodbye to Oscar (our boy cat) – we know he had a second home as a chap had told my partner he was called Hunter so they had a bit of a disagreement about it. It was really quite sad seeing her upset.
Eventually we had finished sorting and it was time to say goodbye to our son – this must be the saddest moment of my life so far. I knew we would only be a few hours away once travel restrictions were lifted, but I felt like my heart was being ripped out.
Enough soppiness – we had to leave – we had to go to Warrington and collect 2 more dogs and my friend and her luggage and get going on our journey. Apart from a quick practice trip I had never driven anything so large in my life, and never anything left hand drive – worry and trepidation all round.
